La Folie by New Belgium Brewing Company is a pioneering Flanders-style sour brown ale, also known as an Oud Bruin. The brewing process involves maturing the base beer for one to three years in large French oak wine barrels, known as foeders, which contain the oldest continuous souring culture in America. The aged beer is then carefully blended to achieve its signature profile. Pouring a deep mahogany color, La Folie is sharp and sour, featuring prominent notes of green apple, tart cherry, and plum-skin. It finishes with a dry effervescence and earthy undertones, delivering a complex and puckering mouthfeel with 18 IBU.
